What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Louisville Church of Christ based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these Biblical doctrines.

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory, honor and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Revelation

God has revealed Himself to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the image of the invisible God. Who became flesh and dwelt among us for a while, showing us exactly how God looks like. He became sin (acts done by man that are against God) so that those who become His may become the righteousness of God. Jesus is now at the right hand of God the Father and is constantly interceding for those that are His. There is no one
like Him.

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.

The Fall

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time. We too have fallen short of the glory of God. The apostle Paul teaches us that in the book of Romans.

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a perfect life. One without a single sin. Try to wrap your mind around that! Jesus walked in and out among us while He was here on earth. He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind and made whole the leper. He also raised back to life a couple of folks. He was the wrongly accused and crucified, nailed to a cross. There He paid the debt that we owed. He took every single one of our sins and owned them. Jesus took on all of the wrath of God so that those who come to know Him as Lord and Savior will not have to experience even a drop of God's unbearable wrath. God raised Him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone. One responds to the Gospel by first believing that Jesus is who He says He is. (John 8:24) Leaving the life that drew them away from God in the first place, and now walking towards God. And act known as repentance. This is huge. (Luke 13:3, 5) As Jesus commanded, the individual will then be baptized into Christ, reenacting the Gospel story. (Matthew 28:18-20, Romans 6:1-4) From then on, he or she will be added to the church and begin living a life they never dreamed they would or could.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And is known by its love for God, for each other and for the lost. They are marked by unity, purity and verity (truth).

Homecoming

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead. He will then take with Him all those that are His. Where each will enjoy life as it was intended. With the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We have only a glimpse of how amazing life will finally be. To this end we
live and hope.
